After an early breakfast, drive towards Barkot (approx. 190 km, 7-8 hrs), passing through scenic hill towns and dense forests along the way. Check in to your hotel and rest, as tomorrow begins the trek to the first of the four sacred shrines on your Chardham Yatra.
Drive to Janki Chatti and begin your trek (about 5 km) to Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Pilgrims can opt for pony or palki rides for the trek. After darshan and a dip in the hot springs at Surya Kund, trek back down and return to Barkot for an overnight stay.
Drive from Barkot to Uttarkashi, and further towards Gangotri (approx. 100 km). Check in to your hotel in Gangotri or nearby Harsil, and spend the evening at leisure, soaking in the views of the Bhagirathi river.
